The Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS)
The Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS) was announced in the summer of 2007 when the Tressel and Watson Families presented the University with a $1 million donation.
This indoor facility is vital to the future success of the YSU athletic department. The facility will provide the most critical ingredient to meet the challenges presented by the opportunity of playing nationally-recognized competition.
The WATTS features a full-length football fi eld, a 300-meter state-of-the-art mondo track surface, two long-jump pits, a highjump pit, four batting cages, protective netting, a training room and locker rooms.
The seasonal facility will accommodate athletic team practices, intramural sports, campus-wide activities and special events benefiting students, faculty, staff and the community - especially during the fall, spring and harsh winter months.
Soccer, men’s and women’s track and fi eld, baseball, softball and football would have the ability to practice in a safer, more comfortable environment. The facility also provides a significantly prolonged practice season to meet the challenge of the elevated level of competition YSU seeks to embrace.
In addition, the WATTS will serve as a community resource - providing a large, climate-protected venue for local youth organizations and high schools.
Utilization would benefi t other campus constituencies as well. ROTC, intramurals and other student activities could now be engaged year round. Similarly, YSU can host numerous scholastic and community events that would equally benefi t from the facility.
This $12.3-million project was seen as a public/private partnership in that the construction costs would be sought through private philanthropy.

YSU Softball Complex
In the spring of 2014, the Youngstown State softball team moved back to campus and play all of its home contests at the new YSU Softball Complex.
The field is located just south of Farmers National Bank Field and behind the McDonald's located on Fifth Avenue across the street from Stambaugh Stadium.
The natural grass complex features first-class lighting, dugouts, seating for 100 fans, a new sound system, a scoreboard, press box, which includes a private TV booth and hard-wired internet. Future plans call for batting cages, and additional fencing and signage to be installed.
The field is between two major university parking lots (M-70 and M-72). Fans are reminded during the week and on gamedays to park with caution.
The main entrance to the facility is located off of Ford Avenue which is West of the complex. A concession stand and restroom facilities are located behind the press box area.
Gameday Parking
Suggested parking is in either the M-72 lot west of the complex or the M-70 lot across Fifth Avenue from the Youngstown State campus just south of the McDonald's.
